SOMA participates in the Panel ‘The Digital Age of Journalism: Data, New Tools and Copyrights’

On September 14th 2019, SOMA will participate in the Panel ‘The Digital Age of Journalism: Data, New Tools and Copyrights’, organized by the Advanced Media Institute, under the international conference ‘Media, Polis, Agora: Journalism & Communication in the Digital Era’ (AMIRetreat).

Communications and New Journalism postgraduate students of the Open University of Cyprus, will have the opportunity to learn about the Observatory and its actions, on establishing a network supporting the EU’s long-term efforts to build defenses against disinformation.

The panel is consisted of:

  • Yiannis Papadopoulos, journalist, who will elaborate on the best practices for producing journalism videos.
  • Nikos Sarris, head of the ATC Innovation Lab and Coordinator of the SOMA project, who will introduce SOMA and its strategies on tackling disinformation.
  • Yiannis Drenogiannis, journalist, who will present the VR technology used on the company VR360.
  • Maria-Daphne Papadopoulou, lawyer, who will focus on copyright issues in journalism, including both publishers’ and journalists’ rights to reproduce material from digital applications (e.g. Google News)

The Panel Discussion The Digital Age of Journalism: Data, New Tools and Copyrights’ will take place at the Incubator for Media Education and Development (iMEdD) in Athens, from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm.
