“From unit level to access level: Modeling academic social media data safe spaces based on administrative and genomic data management” – conducted by the DATALAB – Center for Digital Social Research at Aarhus University – was published. This report provides an investigation of so-called research safe spaces for social media data, that is for how data can be safely stored and accessed. The examples of solutions applied to genomic and administrative data built the basis for an evaluation of how a safe space solution can be created for social media data. The report argues for an establishment of safe spaces in which privacy is protected on access rather than on unit level and outlines two potential scenarios for safe space solutions for social media data. A first priority scenario argues for a safe space research solution facilitated outside the social media platforms. A second alternative priority is the establishment of safe spaces for data research facilitated by each social media platform. For more details see here.
